Bonjour. T'is the season! Chocolat chaud, anyone Bonjour.

T'is the season! Chocolat chaud, anyone?

It's taken me a while to find the perfect hot chocolate in Tours, Loire Valley.

C'est chose faite. Done.

For the last few months Le Salon Bleu has been welcoming locals (visitors may miss it if they stay in "le Vieux Tours") to general acclaim.

A 5-minute walk away from the city's renowned brasseries near place Jean Jaurès (where I wrapped up a live-streamed tour recently) picture a cozy place with such generous business hours one can go all day for breakfast, lunch or even to sample a delicious "goûter."

I stopped by for hot chocolate at 10:00am and found myself sitting comfortably in a lovely room at the back of the building where a few "habitués" (regulars) were busy putting the world to rights.

"Le Patron" (the owner) wanted to make sure I enjoyed my beverage. "Fait Maison" with Valrhona chocolate and pretty as can be: He needn't have worried. I liked it.

The "cake au citron" wasn't too bad either and I hear the home-cooked lunch menu (it changes each week) is a crowd pleaser.

Will I come back? You betcha.

Merci à l'équipe du Salon Bleu pour son accueil et à bientôt.

Bonjour, Drawback of visiting only new-age coffee Bonjour,

Drawback of visiting only new-age coffee shops in France? You’ll miss a chance to spend time at a French institution, le Café des Sports.

You won’t find it on an Influencer’s list in Paris or beyond.

C’est dommage. Le Café des Sports is where authentic French life can be witnessed and enjoyed, even by temporary locals.

Here’s a special story I wrote a few days ago after a challenging week that took me from Strasbourg to a small town outside Toulouse where half my family hails from.

Call it a tribute to traditional French cafés, an endangered species in the age of globalization.

Call it a tribute to my southwestern roots and an homage to a family member who’s just left us and brought us together as we said a final goodbye.

Either way, it’s a personal story set in la Belle France. I hope you enjoy it.

Find the link on the France with Vero blog (Feeling lazy? I shared it in the Bio.)

Bonjour. Leçon de français du lundi. Qui me su Bonjour.

Leçon de français du lundi. Qui me suit?
(English translation below.)

Le quignon, le croûton.
Nom, masculin.

Question de volonté, n'est-ce-pas?

English translation:
Quignon, croûton.
Noun, masc.
The tip of the baguette.

In France, everyone knows a baguette never makes it home with both its "quignons." No matter what we do once we push the door open, the tip of the baguette will be missing. Often, a lot more will be missing and sometimes, there's nothing left at all!

it's all about will power n'est-ce-pas?

Here's a well-kept secret: There are around the country more creative bakeries. They offer baguettes with 4 (!) "quignons" like the one I sampled recently near Toulouse.

There you go, problem solved: Those with no sense of restraint are satisfied. They could even share if they are in generous mood.

What about you? Do you enjoy eating the tip of the baguette?

Bonjour, Strasbourg… not quite French, not quit Bonjour,

Strasbourg… not quite French, not quite German.

Visitors love her just like she is, day and night, even more so as she prepares to greet the Holiday season.

I couldn’t get enough of my strolls around this seductive city where the (rich and fascinating) Past and the Present cohabit harmoniously.

Bienvenue à Strasbourg!

— Pour Brigitte, la grande voyageuse. Bonne route, cousine.
