Bonjour, If you've joined this community recently Bonjour,

If you've joined this community recently, you probably scratch your head now and then and wonder how many hats this French gal who publishes stories here weekly really wears.

A guide, virtual tour guide, content creator, French language instructor, public speaker, I have shared France, French life and French culture on social media for over a decade.

I used to write on the "French Girl in Seattle" blog, a special space created in 2014 to feature my favorite stories before I left the United States.

The time has come for "France with Véro," the online business born out of a pandemic, to have a new home.

Since the start of 2023 I have been building a website with the help of a patron of mine who happens to be a talented website designer, Janet Hoover (@createlaunchgrow)

We've worked hard and had a lot of fun designing a place where visitors can find all the content I create more easily, and find out about services I offer (with more to come.)

If nothing else "France with Véro" will welcome francophiles in search of a "France fix."

I am proud of it and hope you enjoy discovering it.

Over the weekend, France with Vero patrons have sent some feedback (mostly positive, praise the Lord!) They also entered a Give-Away (wrapping up on Wednesday) to win a special set of Loire Valley themed gifts. -- Membership does have its privileges!

I hope you consider joining me "chez moi" on the "France with Véro" site where a new blogpost awaits as a welcome gift (It's about la Belle France, of course!)

If you enjoy what you see, please help support "France with Véro" and share the site with your francophile friends. Merci beaucoup!

The link to the website is - you guessed it! - "in the Bio!" ;-)

A bientôt,

Véro

Bienvenue à Cheverny, one of the Loire Valley’s Bienvenue à Cheverny, one of the Loire Valley’s “star” châteaux.

In the hands of the same family (give or take a couple of interruptions) for over 600 years.

In a region known for its Renaissance architecture (16th century) Cheverny, rebuilt at the start of the “Grand Siècle,” stands out.

Kings, queens and other powerful people have stayed here, and the lavishly furnished château and its elegant grounds make it easy to see why.

Tintin and Captain Haddock have been here too. After all, the château is also known as “Moulinsart,” (Marlinspike Hall,) the old sailor’s ancestral home!

Merci au château de Cheverny. Histoire et élégance dans un monde de brutes…

Bonjour, These days, the “neo” concept is a t Bonjour,

These days, the “neo” concept is a thing on the Paris restaurant scene. Neo bouillons. Neo brasseries.

Options abound for diners in search of traditional French dishes prepared and served “sans chichi,” without a fuss.

Their (young) chefs and owners respect food and insist on recreating traditional French recipes prepared with local, seasonal ingredients.

Meet la Brasserie Dubillot. A friend of mine (Merci @AprilinParisTours) took me there recently during my birthday week.

Brasserie Dubillot sits along la rue Saint Denis, one of the oldest Parisian streets, in the heart of the “Sentier” a historic district.

The Sentier was once the bustling center of the French textile and garment manufacturing industry. Un quartier populaire, donc.

Unpretentious, yet a bit “Bobo” (gentrified) around the edges, this area is the perfect spot to build a bridge between the “Old” and the “New” Paris.

What I like the most about Brasserie Dubillot? Le cadre. The environment.

Bright, colorful, cheerful. The best antidote for long, grey, humid Parisian winters.

Service is friendly (Au revoir, sarcastic, grouchy old Parisian waiters!)

Originality was the key word guiding those who designed the place, a small feat since their well-prepared dishes are nothing new: Poireaux vinaigrette, oeuf mayo, saucisse-purée, or the Paris-Brest, their signature dessert.

Take a look at the detailed, visually appealing wine list, cocktail names or the fun “carafes d’eau” on the tables to see Brasserie Dubillot does things a bit differently to stand out.

There are long lines outside even at lunch time. The younger crowd seems to like it there.

Reservations are recommended.

Brasserie Dubillot. C’est bon. C’est pas (trop) cher. C’est fait maison. C’est sympa.

Bonjour. Some visitors come here for the first ti Bonjour.

Some visitors come here for the first time while château-hopping in this glorious part of France and can't hide their disappointment when they discover "le Château de Tours."

"It's a small one," they say, "very different from what's out there in other former royal towns, like Amboise or Blois."

Quite.

It's a small one, at least today.

A favorite part of the walking tours I lead around my adopted city is introducing the history of this local landmark.

In a few minutes, I take visitors through more than 1500 years and tell them stories about le Château de Tours.

How it sits on the site of former Roman baths and was built on top of a former Roman wall (that they can still see today.) How powerful local counts once fought over this part of the Touraine. How a mighty French king turned a country residence into a fortress in the 13th century. How another king got engaged there. How the building was almost taken apart stone by stone in the 18th century so levees could be built to protect locals from the mighty Loire river. How it housed military barracks for 100 years and later an aquarium...

I love to introduce le Château de Tours in 2023: a renowned site for art exhibits, and thanks to a partnership with Paris' le Jeu de Paume, a prime location for popular photo exhibits the old walls (and two surviving medieval towers) showcase brilliantly.

In March, I might as well not say anything at all: Visitors gasp as they approach the Château and discover the ephemeral show Nature has planned for them when magnolias are in bloom.

Bienvenue au "petit" château de Tours!

Bonjour.

There’s a surprising street in Paris’ second arrondissement.

Even if you’ve walked it, impressed by the incredible architecture a far cry from ubiquitous Haussmannian façades (the trademark of 19th century Paris) chances are you haven’t paid much attention to the buildings or found out about the neighborhood’s fast disappearing past.

A few days ago, braving a wind storm, grey skies, loud Parisian traffic and a trash collectors’ strike (that’s still going on as I type this) I walked along rue Réaumur, highlighting some of its most incredible features and stories during a new virtual tour.

France with Vero patrons previewed the tour a few days ago. I think they liked it!

Maybe you will too…

Vous êtes prêts? Ready?

Prepare your favorite beverage; turn on that flat screen TV and follow me on a new Parisian adventure.

It’s fun. It’s free. It's educational. How bad could it be?

Follow the tour guide: Find the link in the Bio, or head to the France with Vero YouTube channel.

Bon weekend!
